Hysterectomy: Why I broke up with my Uterus

Today is Day 3 since my hysterectomy. And I am feeling a bit better.

I did not have a full hysterectomy, I had a partial one. My Obgyne left both of my ovaries in – so I don’t fast forward myself to menopause. I am 44 years old.

I have had some friends reach out and wondered why I had it done. Well, I have always had some sort of back and abdominal pain for years. It gets worse around my monthly period. But starting mid-2019, it just started to get worse. I tried not to think about it – but pain coupled with blood splattered sheets in the middle of the night – when it wasn’t even my period… I knew it was time for me to see a doctor.

She found some small polyps through ultrasound, and that I had a fibroid tumor the size of a grapefruit embedded in my uterine wall.

Took a selfie 3 hours post-op. I was groggy at this time.

I could still bear through the pain, but during the last quarter of 2020. It was getting uncomfortable and at time unbearable. I would take Ibuprofen almost every night especially after a long day at work.

My Obgyne, Dr. Alexis Tuck (Kadlec) recommended that she can get rid of the fibroids – but it has a chance of coming back… Or get a partial hysterectomy, where taking almost everything off will reduce my chances of regrowth and possible cancer too.

So, I opted for the latter. I will write a bit about my journey here – for my memory and maybe – it can help someone out too.
